Ron Mueck - April 16th till October 27th 2013 - Paris 14.

Ron Mueck has been invited to present his new sculpture at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain from April 16 to October 27 2013. This is his first major exhibition in Europe since the hugely successful Fondation Cartier exhibition of 2005.

A Ron Mueck exhibition is a rare event.
Based in London, Ron Mueck has had highly acclaimed exhibitions around the world from Japan to Australia, New Zealand and Mexico, but shows of his new work in Europe have not been frequent occurrences. Mueck works slowly in his small North London studio, making time itself an important element in his creative process. His human figures are meticulously detailed, with surprising changes of scale that place them as far from academic realism as they are from pop art or hyperrealism.

Catacombs: Welcome to the bowels of Paris

The Catacombs, which form a veritable labyrinth beneath the very heart of Paris, were created in the galleries of the former quarries whose stone was used to build the capital.
In the long maze of dark galleries and narrow passages, visitors can see a tableau of death with bones arranged in a macabre display of high Romantic taste.
This unusual site movingly brings the history of the Parisian people back to life and takes visitors on a timeless journey.
The quarrying left. empty areas used to create the eighteenth-century ossuary which became the Paris Catacombs.
The bones from several graveyards and churches in Paris undoubtedly include the remains of many famous names from previous centuries including, amongst others, the writers François Rabelais (between 1483 and 1494 -1553), Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1698) and Charles Perrault (1628 - 1703).
